Zotero

Main focus of Zotero

With Zotero you can

  • collect and manage your references online
  • import references from subject databases and library catalogues
  • automatically forward your bibliographic data and literature lists into seminar papers, theses and manuscripts

Installation

Zotero is available for the operating systems Windows, macOS and Linux.

  • The different versions of Zotero can be downloaded free of charge from the following website and then installed:
    www.zotero.org

  • For conveniently capturing literature directly from your browser, you will also need the Zotero Connector, which is also available from the Zotero download page.

  • The appropriate plugin for your word processor (Word, Libre Office...) is automatically installed with the Zotero installation.

Storage & Synchronisation

The desktop version of Zotero stores all data locally on your computer by default.

Synchronization with the Zotero server is not a service provided by KIM Hohenheim. Please inform yourself in advance about the privacy policy and terms of use: https://www.zotero.org/support/privacy

A privacy-friendly option for members of the University of Hohenheim is synchronization via WebDAV. Here you can store your Zotero libraries on bwsync@share. To do this, select the “Synchronize with WebDAV” option in the Zotero settings.

  • URL: see your bwsync@share under “File settings,” starting with bwsyncandshare.kit.edu/remote.php/dav/....

  • Username and Password:
In bwsync under your profile > settings > security > create new app password (you can enter  e.g. "Zotero" as app name)
