Questions and answers about publishing your dissertation

A CV is not obligatory in the mandatory copies (print and electronic) and can be omitted as this is personal data. For data protection reasons, we recommend removing an existing CV (you are welcome to leave a list of your scientific publications following the CV).

No, unlike the examination copies, the affidavit including a handwritten signature is not required for the deposit copies and the electronic version. If you do want to print the affidavit, please remove your personal signature so that it is not freely accessible online.

The deposit copies must be printed on non-ageing paper and permanently bound (hot glue binding, e.g. in a copy shop, is sufficient). Dissertations with ring binding or binding rails will not be accepted.
The copies must contain a dissertation title page with the correct details of the faculty, institute, chair and year of publication. The date of the oral examination and the names of the dean and the reviewers must be given on the back of the title page or on the page following the title page.

The ISBN or ISSN (International Standard Book / Serial Number) and the seal "D100" must be stated on the back of the title page as a reference to a Hohenheim dissertation. No. If the illustrations in the electronic version are in colour, the illustrations in the deposit copies can be printed in black and white.

This refers to paper that contains little or no substances that accelerate its ageing (acid-free!). Requirements for age-resistant paper are defined in DIN EN ISO 9706, among others. Recycled paper does not fulfil this DIN standard and must not be used.

Book or photo printing means that the deposit copies must be produced in paper form with permanent binding.

The most common and cost-effective binding method for dissertations is adhesive or glue binding. Thread stitching is rarely used.
Ring binding or binding rails are not accepted.

The book cover is generally coloured cardboard. However, you can also use a hard cover or you can use a transparent film for the front cover and cardboard for the back cover.

As a minimum, your name and the title of the dissertation should be printed on the book cover. Covers without imprints are also accepted.

The office for submitting the deposit copies of dissertations is located in the Central Library, Garbenstraße 15, room 228. The deposit copies can also be handed at the circulation desk of the Central Library during the usual opening hours, or sent by internal mail or post:

University of Hohenheim - KIM (630)
Dissertation Office
Garbenstraße 15
70599 Stuttgart

After review by our staff, a deposit copy will be sent immediately to the Graduate Academy, which will arrange for the certificate to be issued.

As a rule, you will receive your certificate directly from the Graduate Academy within 3 - 4 weeks of submitting the deposit copies to KIM.
The process is as follows: Once the deposit copies have been submitted and checked by our staff, a deposit copy is immediately sent to the Graduate Academy. The Graduate Academy forwards the deposit copy to the first examiner, who must sign a declaration of compliance. Once the signed declaration of conformity and the deposit copy have been returned to the Graduate Academy, the certificate is drawn up. The certificate must be signed by the dean and the rector. The certificate will then be sent to you.
The library will receive the deposit copy back from the Graduate Academy and can then activate the electronic version. The printed deposit copies are archived and made available for loan.
