Since October 2024, the virtual laboratory Labster has been available to all students and lecturers at the University of Hohenheim via a campus license, initially for a period of five years.
The educational software covers a variety of scientific topics such as
- Nutrition and food sciences,
- Microbiology and molecular biology,
- Ecology and climate change,
- Biodiversity and physiology,
- and many more.
It offers laboratory simulations for the introduction to common methods, such as
- Western Blot and ELISA,
- PCR and CRISPR,
- Microscopy and spectrophotometry,
- Instruction in laboratory safety
- and explains the principles of scientific experiments and measurements.
The software can be used as a supplement to teaching or for self-study. Students can familiarise themselves independently and playfully with topics or methods and use the simulations to prepare for real laboratory work.
