Inter-library loan

Payment via Department Account

University departments can apply for a departmental user card (department account) at the Central Library Circulation Desk.
With this account, employees of the department can place interlibrary loan orders.
The KIM settles the fees accrued on the departmental account once a year with the department via internal invoicing.

Internal invoices of interlibrary loan fees from personal library accounts is not possible.

Inter-library Loan

Inter-library loan (Deutscher Leihverkehr) is an agreement between libraries for the exchange of scientific literature. Books and journal articles that are not available in any of the Hohenheim libraries can be ordered via inter-library loan from another library in the original or as a copy. Copies are only permitted for non-commercial use.

Placing an order

A KIM Hohenheim library card is required for ordering. One inter-library loan request is required for each book title or journal article. Orders can be placed conveniently via the inter-library loan portal:

A processing fee of € 1.50 is due per each inter-library loan request. It must be paid even if the medium is found in the Hohenheim holdings during the processing of the inter-library loan request or if the order remains unsuccessful. There is no delivery guarantee. The process usually takes 2-3 weeks. It can also take longer. Unfortunately, no information can be given on the status of the processing of an inter-library loan request. If you need literature very quickly, you can borrow it locally from libraries in the region, provided the required publication is available there. Direct ordering via electronic document delivery services is also possible for an increased fee.

Pick-up and lending conditions

You can pick up the literature you ordered at the circulation counter in the Central Library. You will be sent a notification that the book or articles you requested have arrived in your library account and via email or post.

You may keep copies you receive. The loan period for books is typically 4 weeks. It is possible that the loan period is different if the lending library so chooses. For media that can only be viewed in the reading room, there are rooms available in the Central Library.

Books ordered through inter-library loan cannot be added to course reserve shelves.
