Geographic information with ArcGIS
As an employee of the University of Hohenheim you have the possibility to use the licensed software ArcGIS Desktop Advanced 10.5 and certain extensions free of charge.
Conditions
- You may use the software products exclusively within the scope of your scientific work for projects without commercial purpose (e.g. for research work).
- You must be an employee of the University of Hohenheim and have a valid Hohenheim e-mail address.
Period of use, license
- The licence is valid until the user leaves the University of Hohenheim. This ends the authorisation to use the software product.
- Your access rights are non-transferrable.
- You must follow the terms of use of the manufacturer Esri:

Procedure
Use of the ArcGIS Pro software
- Please send an informal e-mail to kim-software@uni-hohenheim.de
- You will then be registered in the Portal for ArcGIS of the University of Hohenheim and will receive the access data for an Esri online account by e-mail.
- Now, as a student, you can use ArcGIS Pro with all extensions and additional apps as long as you are a member of the University of Hohenheim.
Use of the ArcGIS for Desktop software
If you still want to use the old ArcGIS for Desktop software, please follow these steps:
- Apply for inclusion in the ILIAS course “ArcGIS”
- There you will find the software for download and instructions on how to obtain the licence via the university's central licence server.
IMPORTANT: You need an active VPN connection to use ArcGIS for Desktop.
ArcGIS online courses
As a member of the University of Hohenheim you can use online courses, lectures and videos on the topic of GIS and ArcGIS free of charge.

- Please indicate your Hohenheim e-mail adress in this mail.
- Esri will send you an e-mail with detailed information and links to the ArcGIS online courses after your activation.
