Scanned examinations

At the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Natural Sciences, you can carry out examinations using the software EvaExam.

In this type of examination, questions are answered on special paper forms that can be scanned and evaluated automatically after the examination. Especially for examinations with a high number of participants, the time needed for marking can be greatly reduced.

Examination procedure with scanned examinations

  • You come up with your exam and create it in EvaExam.
  • Then you create a pdf file with all examination papers and have them printed by the printing house.
  • The students enter their answers on the printed examination papers.
  • After the examination, you correct the open questions by hand on the papers and assign points for these questions.
  • If you have examination packets with multiple pages, you take out the staples.
  • Finally, you scan the complete examination papers using the EvaExam scan station.
  • For examinations of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences you can use Room 110 in the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. Please book it using the ILIAS group for examiners. If you need a introduction into the scanning process, please contact Michael Feketitsch (michael_feketitsch@uni-hohenheim.de).
  • For examinations of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, a scanner is available in the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. To ensure that someone is present in the dean's office, please contact in advance: natur@uni-hohenheim.de
  • Answers that cannot be clearly identified can be corrected directly on the screen. This procedure is called “verification”.
  • Finally, in EvaExam you will receive an examination report with a statistical evaluation that you can download as a CSV / PDF file and archive on a data carrier.
  • The exams can be reviewed on a computer, for example one of the computer room.

Available types of questions

Types of questions that are possible and allowed by the examination regulations are:

  • Multiple choice:
Exactly one of three or four answer possibilities is correct.
  • Open questions: The student answer the question in a field (the size can be as large as you want) by hand. During the correction, the examiner evaluates the answer by hand. The points assigned are automatically calculated with the other points by EvaExam.
