p2go

Upload and stream videos with Presentations2Go

With the Presentations2Go streaming server, online videos can be made available for research and teaching. p2go works similar to YouTube: You upload a video that your target group can then watch online at any time on a wide variety of devices. In contrast to the download of a video file, p2go uses a video stream for playback. This saves resources and makes it almost impossible to save the video.

In certain lecture halls, you can also automatically record and upload lectures and events.

Advantage of video streaming

Download

When downloading, the complete file is always downloaded at maximum speed. This leads to a heavy strain on the web server and the network. A 1 GB-file can lead to massive problems with the overall performance of TYPO3 or ILIAS with noticeable effects on all users even if there are only 10 parallel downloads.

Streaming

With streaming, however, only what is currently being watched is transmitted, depending on the situation. This saves between 50 and 95% of server resources and at the same time, significantly more users can be served.

What to do

Playback

you can find p2go at this address:
p2go.uni-hohenheim.de

  • Play videos that are freely available to all
If you are not logged in, you can play all videos on p2go that have been shared with anonymous users (children's university, ...).

  • Play videos that are only available to University members
Log in with your Hohenheim user account and you will have access to videos that have only been released for University members.

  • Send or link video URL
You can pass on the URL of the video e.g. by email or link from websites. If it is only accessible to University members, you have to register in p2go before playback.

  • Videos using ILIAS
Institutes can also include a video in ILIAS courses. This makes access easier: Course members do not need a video URL but can play the video directly via ILIAS without having to register again in p2go.

Upload

Video recording

You can not only record videos yourself, but also record audio in PowerPoint presentations and save them as a video. Recording technology is available for certain lecture halls which automatically records the whiteboard camera and/or presentation in p2go.
