Printers, scanners, multi-function devices

Usually, you have access to at least one black/white and/or colour group printer. These are available in the administration network and can be set up or connected themselves. A personal workstation printer will only be provided if there is proven necessity. This also applies to scanners.

For multi-function devices, we check whether a high-performance device can replace existing individual devices.

The existing workstation printers are increasingly causing problems and incurring high support and maintenance costs. On the other hand, there are high-performance print and copy stations available at many locations on campus, for which there is a maintenance contract with an external service provider. It is clear that the print and copy stations cannot completely replace the workstation printers, but it is examined in detail whether, in the case of defective workstation printers, the device must necessarily be replaced and, if so, whether another device from the area cannot be used, for example. The goal is to significantly reduce the number of workstation printers.

Changing toner/ink and cleaning the glass for scanners is done by the users. For toner/ink, you should make sure that only original toner/ink (no refill products) are/were used. The first reason for this is because the warranty is usually voided and the second is that the printing results are sometimes flawed. The KIM only manages devices in which original toner/ink has always been used. For cost reasons, repair jobs are contracted only by KIM to external service providers.

Additional hardware

If hardware or software is needed which goes beyond the standard package, KIM and the Chancellor must give approval. If the requirement goes beyond the possibilities allowed by the budget, additional funds must also be applied for. For large projects, you must also plan the necessary personnel resources. In the area of additional hardware there is also a standardization. For example in the area of tablet PCs, devices from Apple (iPad) are being procured, distributed, and serviced.
