Standardized computer workstation

The KIM provides and maintains its own IT environment in the university administration in the so-called administration network. The IT environment includes both the operation of the servers and the associated computers, printers and scanners. These are administered by KIM staff. There is an increased need for security in this area, as personal data such as personnel and student data is processed. This increased need for security is taken into account by separating the network segment from the campus with its own firewall.

In the administrative area, an e-mail server based on Microsoft Exchange and file servers are operated. Approvals at the directory level enable the staff of the University administration to work together.

The Hohenheim user ID can also be used to access IT services that are not located in the administrative network, such as ILIAS, which are linked to this user account.

In order to be able to guarantee the most comprehensive and resource-saving IT support possible, standardisation of the devices and equipment used is essential.

The hardware is procured from tenders, so that only limited individual adaptations are possible. The computers are therefore standardized in terms of hardware and software equipment and are maintained via software distribution. Employees are entitled to exactly one IT work device according to the equipment below. If the use takes place exclusively at the workplace in Hohenheim, this is a desktop computer; if it is also used for working from home, it is a laptop with docking station. The laptop can be connected within the administration network and at home, exclusively to establish a protected connection to the University of Hohenheim. Other internet connections are not allowed and not possible for security reasons.

If necessary, a 27" flat screen or a second 24" flat screen can be provided.

Laptop with docking station

• Laptop (14" Display FullHD, Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 250 GB NVMe, USB 3.0)
• Docking station (USB 3.0, HDMI, DVI, VGA, LAN)
