Threema Work

What is Threema Work?

Threema Work is a messenger for sending and receiving messages. These are encrypted. The servers are located in Switzerland and meet the requirements of the GDPR.

Threema Work is used on a trial basis, e.g. for emergency communication. This is in case internal communication tools such as email are no longer available. Another advantage is that personal phone numbers are not required.

What is the Threema Work ID?

The Threema Work ID is your unique identifier within the Threema Work app and is not linked to a phone number or email address.

What to consider when changing smartphones

If you change smartphones or reset your current device, you can transfer your Threema ID and continue using the app as usual.

To transfer your ID, you need an ID export. To transfer your chat content as well, you will also need to back up your data. Threema for Android automatically saves your Threema ID in the data backup; Threema for iOS only does this if an ID export has been created beforehand.

The ID export only contains the ID; it does not contain chats, group compositions, media, or the trust levels of your contacts. If you change devices, you must remove your Threema ID from the previous device after you have successfully imported the ID onto your new device.

>> Create ID export <<

Android

  1. To create an ID export, navigate to “My Profile > Backup and Delete” and select “Export ID.”
  2. Choose a password for the ID export. Without this password, your ID cannot be restored.
  3. Your ID data (i.e., your private key) will now be encrypted with the password and displayed as text and as a QR code.
  4. Save your ID export (e.g., screenshot) in a safe place. You can also send it to yourself via email.

iOS

  1. To create an ID export, navigate to “Profile,” tap “Export ID” at the bottom, and select a password. Without this password, your ID cannot be restored.
  2. Your ID data (i.e., your private key) will now be encrypted with the password and displayed as text and as a QR code.
  3. Save your ID export (e.g., screenshot) in a secure location.
  4. You can also have the ID export automatically integrated into the next iTunes or Finder backup by activating “Include in device backup.”

It is recommended to back up your Threema ID right at the start of use.
