New bwForCluster NEMO and BinAC high-performance computers for researchers in Baden-Wuerttemberg  [06.07.16]

bwForCluster NEMO and BinAC are part of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg's „High Performance Computing“ strategy (bwHPC). These new high-performance computers provide extensive computing capacities throughout the entire state for a wealth of different data-intensive research projects. These capacities are available to all scientists and academics in various disciplinary fields.

The new TOP500-Liste (06/2016) of the world's most powerful supercomputers was published at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC’16). The bwForCluster NEMO, which is equipped for neurosciences, elementary physics and microsystem technology, is in 214th place, while  BinAC, which is used in bioinformatics and astrophysics, lies in 412th position.

The accompanying bwHPC- C5 project, which is also housed at the KIM, also exhibited at the ISC with its own stand. The permanent presentation exhibited there was also enhanced with examples of Hohenheim applications. The research groups from the Institute for Physics and Meteorology, Economics of Land Use in the Tropics and Subtropics and the Crop Biodiversity and Breeding Informatics research group also made simulation results available.
