Change of passwords (OpenSSL-security hole) [14.04.14]
In the last days detailed media reports informed about the OpenSSL-security hole ("Heartbleed"). We´ve updated the potentially concerned systems and replaced the certificates. If the security hole had been used to access data like username or password can´t be answered. Therefore, we recommend you to change the passwords of your Hohenheim user account and your library account.
Please proceed like following:
- Delete saved passwords
If the password had been saved, e.g. in your mailing program (MS Outlook, Thunderbird) please delete it at all places, including your mobile devices (Smartphone, Tablet-PC...) - Change the Hohenheim user account password
Therefore, you can use the link "change password" on the right bottom of the intranet front page. Alternatively, you can use these pages: kim.uni-hohenheim.de/student-password or kim.uni-hohenheim.de/staff-password - Change password of the library account
After logging-in to the library account, you can find the link "change password" on the left hand side.
If you haven´t performed step 1 consistently, it may happen that the existing ("old") password automatically gets transferred and the user account is blocked. The lock is released automatically after 2.5 hours.
For your own safety change your password regularly.
How to produce a safe password that can be remembered easily?
Create a sentence and take the first letter of each word. Numerals can be replaced by numbers (e.g. two -> 2), punctuation characters used in the password provide more security.
