Warning against fake websites  [20.01.23]

Recently, fake websites from software vendors that look deceptively similar to the original ones have been appearing with increasing frequency. This phenomenon is called "typo-squatting". An attacker registers a domain that is very similar to an existing domain, but differs slightly from the original domain due to a typo or different spelling.

The attacker then tries to profit from users visiting the fake website due to the typo, for example, by placing ads or malware on the fake domain.

It is also important to note that these fake sites often appear in the top results of search engines, which makes them even more dangerous because it is harder for users to distinguish them from legitimate sites.

If you download software from these fake sites, you run the risk of downloading malware onto your computer. To protect yourself from this danger, you should always visit the official website of the software publisher and download the software only from there. If you are not sure whether a website is legitimate, you should always consult an independent source before taking any action on the website.
