Vulnerability in Chrome and Edge browser respectively [10.02.21]
Opening a web page with Chrome or Edge browser specially crafted by the attacker triggers a memory overflow to then execute arbitrary code on the target system. This can lead to a threat, especially in connection with the "Emotet" malware, but also through other malware.
Since the vulnerability is already actively exploited, patch version 88.0.4324.150 (dated February 04, 2021) for Chrome browser and 88.0.705.63 from (dated Februray 05, 2021) for Edge browser should be installed as soon as possible.
The update of the Chrome browser can be triggered in the menu :
- Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner to open the Settings menu.
- Click on "Help" and select "About Google Chrome" from the submenu.
- On the next page, the version number of your browser will be displayed and usually it will automatically check for updates.
- Follow the instructions and restart the browser to complete the update.
The update of the Edge browser is done automatically via Windows Update and can be triggered manually there if necessary.
