Introduction of multi-factor authentication for M365 effective July 1, 2026 [01.06.26]
Multi-factor authentication is being expanded to additional services. As of July 1, 2026, it will be mandatory for logging into M365. M365 stands for Microsoft 365 and includes the Microsoft services used at the University of Hohenheim, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
This provides additional security for access to the Microsoft 365 account and reduces the risk of unauthorized individuals accessing personal or sensitive data. In addition to the password for the University of Hohenheim user account, a second security factor (2FA token) is required. This is only required during login; after that, you can use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams without having to re-enter it.
If you have already set up a 2FA token, for example for VPN access, then use this one for M365 as well. Setting it is neither necessary nor possible.
Otherwise, you can find information on setting up multi-factor authentication on our website.
Please note: To set up a 2FA token, you must be connected to the campus network, either via a wired connection or via eduroam.
