Access to Hohenheim network via VPN

If you work under way or at home via WLAN or LAN, you can connect to the Hohenheim network via VPN client. You get a Hohenheim IP address and to work with the same rights that you have on campus in Hohenheim.

Cisco Secure Client (formerly AnyConnect) supports only the current operating systems.

VPN connection with Windows/Mac

Install Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.

Installation

  1. Download the VPN client here.
  2. Now install the VPN client on your system.

Connect and disconnect

  1. Start the client. In the field “connect,” enter “vpn.uni-hohenheim.de“ and confirm using “connect”.
  2. Identify yourself with your Hohenheim user account.
  3. If you have a VPN connection, then in the Windows taskbar / in the Mac dock you will see a closed padlock.
  4. To disconnect, right-click with the mouse on the padlock.

VPN connection with Android/iOS

The Cisco Secure Client app (formerly AnyConnect) is available for iOS and Android.

Installation

  1. Download the "Cisco Secure Client" app from the Play Store or App Store.
  2. Start it and add a new VPN connection:
    Description: any name
    Server(address):     vpn.uni-hohenheim.de
  3. Save this configuration.

Connect and disconnect

  1. Start the app and activate the VPN connection to Hohenheim.
  2. Identify yourself with your Hohenheim user account.
  3. Now you can use other apps as usual
  4. To disconnect, go to the app and disable VPN.

VPN connection with Linux using an example

Installation

  1. Open a terminal and switch to the download directory in which the tar-file can be found:
    cd Downloads/

  2. Unzip it (gunzip, tar) and run the installer as root:
    gunzip cisco-secure-client-linux64-5.0.03072-predeploy-k9.tar.gz
    tar xvf cisco-secure-client-linux64-5.0.03072-predeploy-k9.tar
    cd cisco-secure-client-linux64-5.0.03072/
    cd vpn
    sudo ./vpn_install.sh

    Please note: 5.0.03072 is taken for your version number and must be customized if necessary.

Connecting and disconnecting

  1. Choose the Cisco Secure Client client via the program search function and start the client or run /opt/cisco/secureclient/bin/vpnui via the terminal. Enter vpn.uni-hohenheim.de under connect.
  2. After clicking the connect button you have to enter your login data. Use your Hohenheim user account to identify.
  3. To exit the connection click disconnect.
