Break discs

Because of the limited amount of space, break discs are used.

The break discs apply:

  • for all carrels in the Central Library
  • for all carrels in the Departmental Library

These rules are meant to...

  • promote better use of the limited space for studying
  • enable self-regulation by the students
  • support fair and considerate behavior.

How they work

The break discs reserve your carrel if you need to leave it for a short time. They can be used in all library rooms.

  • You can find break discs on every floor in the stands near the stairs.
  • When you leave your carrel for a break, to find literature, to make copies, etc., set the disc to the current time.
  • The carrel is then reserved for 30 minutes (between noon and 2 pm for 60 minutes).
  • Tables without discs or with discs that are older than 30 minutes can be taken by other users.
  • Please put the break discs back in the stands after using them.

Self-regulation by users

If you cannot find a free carrel in the library, you can clear off tables without break discs or with old break discs and use them yourself (push the materials to the side or pack them in a clear plastic bag that you can get at the circulation counter).

The break discs are mean to prevent carrels from being blocked for hours with work materials, keeping others from using them. In the interest of all library users, please follow this rule.
