Loan periods and renewals

Central Library and Departmental Library

From both libraries, a total of 30 media items can be checked out at one time.

  • Textbooks / monographs: 30 days
  • Journals: Cannot be borrowed

The loan period is 30 days with 5 automatic renewals. Inter-library loan requests are an exception to this rule. The automatic renewals apply only to students and employees of the University of Hohenheim.

Overdue notices

Overdue notices are automatically sent by the loan system for media whose loan period has been exceeded. These notices will be sent in writing by email or by post. Before the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th notice is issued, there is a period of 10 days in each case within which you must return the overdue media or - if possible - request a renewal at the circulation counter.

The overdue fees are based on the fee regulations of the University of Hohenheim’s Communication, Information, and Media Center.

Please note: If your library account is debited with a third overdue notice or with more than € 15 in fees, it will be automatically blocked for further loans. It is then not possible to renew media.

The overdue fees are:

  1. 1st overdue notice per unit € 1.50
  2. 2nd overdue notice per unit € 5.00
  3. and for the 4th overdue notice additionally per unit € 10

Please note that the fees are added up!

Holds

In the catalog, you can reserve media that is currently on loan. In your library account, the reserved title is displayed under "Reservations” (Vormerkungen). Here you can also delete the reservation if you no longer need the title.

Once the reserved medium has been returned, you will be notified if you have provided a valid email address. In your library account, the item is then displayed under “Ready to be picked up” (Bereitstellungen).

The ordered item will then be available for you to pick up for 10 days at the circulation counter of the Central or Departmental Library.

Book return

Please always return the borrowed media to the correct sub-library!

Outside opening hours, you can use the return boxes for this purpose.
