Instructions for changing your password

The following information refers to the Hohenheim University user account for students and employees. With the Hohenheim University user account, you can access many of the university's services (intranet, ILIAS, e-mail, HohCampus, computer rooms, WiFi access, central storage, etc.).

When changing your password, please note the following:

  • The new password must be fundamentally different from any passwords you have used in the past.
  • In addition to lowercase and uppercase letters and numbers, please only use standard special characters (no umlauts, etc.).
  • If you have saved the password, e.g. in your web browser, email program, for using the Wi-Fi access on campus (eduroam), for central storage (CIFS), etc., you must re-enter the password or delete it first.
  • A password is the key to personal information. Never disclose it to third parties, not even to supposedly trustworthy persons. A secure password protects against unauthorized access and helps to prevent data from being misused.
  • Please use different passwords for different services.

You can change your password here.

Notes on web browsers / password managers

For web services (ILIAS, HohCampus, etc.), if you have saved the password in the web browser or password manager, you will be notified when using it that the password is no longer valid. To avoid this, you can change the stored passwords in the web browser or password manager settings immediately after changing the password.

Notes on the e-mail program

If you use an e-mail program (MS Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.) for the Hohenheim user account and have saved the password for retrieving and sending e-mails there, you must enter the new password there. You will usually be asked for it when starting or sending.

Notes on Wi-Fi access (eduroam)

The procedure varies depending on the operating system (please note that the Hohenheim user ID must be appended with the domain @uni-hohenheim.de).

  • Windows
Right-click on the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar and select “Do not save” for the Wi-Fi network you have set up so far. You can then set up eduroam again.
  • macOS
When you try to establish an eduroam connection, you will be asked for the eduroam access data again after the password has been changed.
  • iOS or iPadOS
Tap on the Wi-Fi network in the Wi-Fi settings and then on the i in the circle. Then select “Ignore this network”. If you set up the Wi-Fi using cat.eduroam.org, you have to delete the profile: Settings, General, VPN and Device Management. Then remove the displayed profile for eduroam.
  • Android
Go to the “eduroam” settings (Settings → Connections → Wi-Fi). Tap and hold the saved network “eduroam” to delete or change the connection settings. Select “Manage network settings”.

Notes on the central storage (CIFS)

Network drives used in Windows for which the password was saved when connecting must either be disconnected and reconnected or the saved password must be deleted. Instructions for doing this can be found here.
