Terms of use for the rental pool

The rental pool is available for all University institutions. So that you as a user and we as operators are happy and all rights and obligations are clear, there are a few rules

General

Requirements for use
All University institutions are able to borrow equipment.

It is unfortunately not possible to loan equipment to employees or students for private use.

Rental period
Long-term or frequent needs of individual institutions cannot be covered.
Devices are usually loaned for one or two days.

Loan form
When picking up the device, a copy of the loan form with the signature of the institution’s director must be present. Borrowers must show ID. When you return the device, KIM will check whether it is complete and confirm this on the loan form.

Exceeding the loan period
If you exceed the agreed upon loan period, a fee of 20 Euros per calendar day will be charged. If it exceeds the agreed upon load period multiple times, an institute may lose the right to borrow equipment.

Loss / Damage
The institution which borrowed the device is liable in the event of loss or damage. KIM will have the equipment repaired at the cost of the institution or the current value will be invoiced.

Transport and set-up
is done by the institution

Special regulations for notebooks

Installed software

  • Notebooks are provided with a standard installation (Windows and MS Office in German).
  • In order to minimize the risks (Trojans, key loggers, etc.), KIM re-installs all computers after each use. The borrowing institution can choose not to have the re-installation done if it acknowledges and accepts the risks if there would otherwise be a problem with a deadline.

Special Software

  • For the installation of special software in notebook pools, the borrowing institution can be provided with a test device in order to test the installation for the rollout.
  • If special software is to be integrated in an installation image for notebook pools for regular use, at least 6 weeks preparation time are necessary.
  • Special software must be de-installed before returning the device and any of your own data must be saved and deleted.

Software updates

  • The auto-update function has been deactivated on rental notebooks.
  • Updates are done in the context of the new installation on the basis of monthly updates of the system image. During the rental period, the user is responsible for the installation of updates.

Exams

  • “Exams on computers” is not a service that KIM provides the institutes. The organization of exams with the assistance of KIM rental notebooks is the responsibility of the institutes.
