Books

You are looking for a specific book or books on a given topic? When searching for books, there are local, regional and international catalogues available to you.

We recommend the following procedure for the catalogue search:

1. Search Hohenheim

The KIM Library’s complete holdings (Central and Departmental Library) and the institutes’ libraries starting around 1993 can be found in the literature search engine HohSearch.

The catalog gives information about the location of the book and its current availability. With the call number and location given, you can find the book on the shelves of the Central and Departmental Library. The room plans will help you.

The textbook collection is in the Central Library. Here you can find basic literature on all subjects. Books in the textbook collection have several copies available and can be borrowed. In addition to the copies in the textbook collection, in the reading rooms there are is also one copy than cannot be borrowed. The presence copy of the social science, business, and economics books are in the Departmental Library.

If all borrowable copies of books are checked out, it is possible to reserve the book in the catalog.

3. Search the South-West German Union Catalogue (SWB)

The SWB catalog lists the media holdings of more than 1,000 academic libraries in Baden-Württemberg, Saxony, and Saarland.
You can order a title that is not available directly from the catalog in the inter-library loan. If there is an inter-library loan copy that can be ordered in the region, the “Inter-library Loan" button appears in the title view (under the details of the libraries that own a copy).  This will redirect you to the inter-library loan portal where you can place your order.

4. Search throughout Germany and beyond

With the Karlsruhe Virtual Catalog (KVK), you can search simultaneously in the catalogs of all German library networks and in the catalogs of major German specialized libraries. Foreign catalogs as well as book trade directories are also available for selection.

The KVK lists literature, but a direct inter-library loan request from the result lists is not possible. To carry out an inter-library loan, use the inter-library loan portal. The fastest way to order is to search for the book you are looking for using the ISBN you have previously copied from the KVK.
